homefamous peopleXerxes I

Xerxes I (c. 519–465 BC), also known as Xerxes the Great, was the fourth King of Kings of the Achaemenid Empire, ruling from 486 to 465 BC. He was the son of Darius I and Atossa, a daughter of Cyrus the Great, making him a direct descendant of the first Achaemenid Emperor. Xerxes is perhaps best remembered for his massive invasion of Greece in 480 BC, which included the famous Battle of Thermopylae and the naval Battle of Salamis. His empire stretched from present-day northeastern Greece and parts of the Balkans (Macedonia, Thrace, Bulgaria, Romania) in the west to the Indus Valley in the east.
